sumi-e
1. Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does the assignment relate to the standard?
The standard is 7-VA-AP-1.3. It is to identify and describe the ways in which artists convey the illusion of space (placement, overlapping, relative size, atmospheric perspective, and linear perspective. It wants us to learn the ancient Japanese art techniques of SUMI-E painting and to use the techniques learned to make a black and white, all nature painting. This assignment relates to the standard because we were able to use steps taught to us to recreate a Japanese art.
2. What steps did you take to complete the assignment?
First, Ms.Kohl taught us the angles and techniques needed for the project. Then she passed out the brushes, and the paper basically all the materials we needed. Then she showed some animal sumo-e paintings for us if we wanted to add them into the project, since it is nature based. After that, I turned it in.
3. This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates a few strengths. One strength is that I can take learned techniques and can use them in a related project. Another strength is that I can relate arts to an age of culture. This assignment helps me because it shows that I can follow instruction and incorporate designs into my own idea.
4. I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved on this assignment by adding more animals and more depth in the background. I also could have used more technique when holding the brush.
5. How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in the real world, as an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I can use these techniques in the real world if I am an artist so that people can be reminded of Japanese arts and culture. I can also use these if I am an informer so that I can explain and inform viewers of an art so they know how it was made. I can use this in class if I need to make a nature based art piece.
