pH Indicator Lab (Acids, Bases & Neutrals)
5e. I know how to determine whether a solution is acidic, basic, or neutral.
1. Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding.
In completing this PH lab project, I was able to determine understanding of standard 5e. because I used litmus paper, different solutions, and a dropper to determine whether the solution was acidic, basic, or neutral. I used the droppers to squeeze the different solution onto the litmus paper, to determine whether it was a acidic, basic, or neutral. At the end, most of the objects turned out to be acidic.
2. Elaborate on at least 1 Science & Engineering Practices you feel you met/gained from completing this project. The Science & Engineering Practices (SEP) identified are listed below:
1. Asking questions and defining problems
5. Using mathematics and computational thinking
2. Developing and using models
6. Constructing explanations & designing solutions
3. Planning and carrying out investigations
7. Engaging in argument from evidence
4. Analyzing and interpreting data
8. Obtaining, evaluating, and communicating info
One SEP that I I feel that I met was analyzing and interpreting data. I analyzed the different solutions' colors on the litmus paper to find out whether it was acidic, basic, or just neutral. I then interpreted the data by discussing it with the people around me to discuss what kind of solution the liquid was based on the change in color of the litmus paper. After I took these steps, I ordered the solutions on my worksheet and glued on the litmus paper.
3. Reflect on your experience, work, and/or score. What is ONE SEP you could have done better on? How will improving in this SEP benefit future work/projects? List “next steps” for improving this SEP.
One step I could've improved on was asking questions and defining problems. In this pH lab project was , I had to use many different kinds of math strategies to find out the overall density, weight, volume, etc. The different steps were somewhat complicated at times which would've been much easier if I had asked more people around me to help with certain parts that were difficult. Next time, I will make sure to ask the people around me for help sooner, so that I can get the assignment done faster.
4. How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real-world, outside of the classroom? Make connections between the content and your life Example: what causes our weather, healing, measuring speed/velocity on a roller coaster, etc.
I will presently apply these skills later on in life when I am much older. I will be able to teach my children about acidic and basic solutions and how the colors determine the type of solution. This will help my children in their lives because they can pass it on to their children and so on. Also, if I decide to be a teacher, I will be able to explain acidic, basic, and and neutral solutions.

1. Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding. *ALWAYS cite EVIDENCE from your work to support your claim
Example: In completing the Psyduck Project I was able to demonstrate understanding (or mastery) of standard 2d because I determined whether the Psyduck offspring's phenotype would be the dominant allele by creating a Punnet Square using both parents' genotypes. My work showed the offspring would in fact have 75% probability for brown eyes/hair, as these are the dominant traits.
