RKMS Mission
RISE MISSION : Rise Kohyang Middle School will develop students who embrace a spirit of community, a goal of service to others, and a desire for self betterment through a college education.
HOW HAVE I MET THE RKMS MISSION?
How do you embrace community?
I once helped embrace community by going to skid row to help out the homeless by giving them food, clothes, and other things like blankets to help them keep warm and help them not feel hunger for a day. I helped these people with their everyday challenges so that hunger and cold weather does not impact them. And simple things like hunger and cold was not something they had to worry about.
How do you serve others?
I served others by trying to be respectful towards my teachers and peers when they need help. Sometimes, when a friend or peer needs help with their studies, I tried my best to describe the lesson and teach them what they needed to know to succeed in the classroom or in the future. I also try to give emotional help to people who cry or seem very sad.
How are you becoming a better student who will be ready for college?
I am becoming a better student who will be ready for college by trying my best to get good grades in all my classes which will allow me to succeed in the future when I need to apply some of these skills. Overall, getting good grades now will help me get good grades in the future which will help me become something successful. I am also becoming a better student who will be ready for college because of the socializing skills I have learned. (I used to be extremely shy in preschool and kindergarten.) But 8th grade is the most significant year where I have learned to open up.
RKMS VISION
R- RECIPROCATE. Give back.
I have reciprocated in this school by helping out teachers at times by sweeping the rooms and trying to keep the different classes clean especially in Ms.Kohl's classroom because it was pretty messy. I have also reciprocated by giving back to my fellow classmates for example, Jooju. Jooju sometimes teaches me about certain things I don't know and she helps me with it. Whenever Jooju needs my help, I try my best to help her out whether it has to do with her feelings or school work.
I- INITIATE AND INNOVATE. Change starts with you.
I have changed myself this year by trying to socialize with people more. In 6th and 7th grade, I was afraid to meet new people and try new things, but this year, I have tried to to talk and socialize with everyone around me. This year, we worked in groups, which has helped me with socializing and talking with new people. I used to be extremely shy (believe it or not) and at most times, I didn't talk at all. I think I have improved greatly from that. Now, I socialize with people a lot more.
S- STEWARD. Be an advocate for change.
I have made a positive change at school by trying to do my best to talk to the people who are lonely or are going through bad times especially my friends who are close to me. I know what some people have went through and certain struggles because sometimes I go through the same things they did. I also try to explain certain things to friends or people I don't really know because personally, I have been hurt and I can teach them certain lessons I have learned. This is one of the things I am really good at.
E- ELEVATE through Education.
I have improved through my years in school as a person by working really hard in every class and subject to make sure I get good grades. I have gotten back on track with better grades just like in sixth grade. I have done better as a whole than 7th grade and I have learned a lot through the mistakes I made in 6th and seventh grade to get me where I am today. I have improved overall by studying and listening in class carefully so that I can ensure that I get good grades throughout this year.
PERSONAL STATEMENT:
This year I have achieved lots of things whether it was a good grade in a test, quiz, project, or school work this year. I have tried my best to get the best grades I can in order to get an overall good grade in all my OTCUs. Because of my hard work, I have been on target for all the OTCUs this year because I have had experience from sixth and seventh grade. Because of being a Rise Kohyang student, I have achieved full knowledge of the Rise vision and the creed and being an overall success that will help me in college and beyond. This personal statement has allowed me to learn about all that I have learned and appreciate it.
The things I have done in order to be successful at achieving my goals is working hard in all my school work at all my classes and studying hard for all the upcoming tests, projects, and quizzes. I also went through lots of challenges like procrastinating and slacking off which allowed me to learn from my mistakes and become a wiser and better person outside in the real world and in the future in college or high school. Because of all these obstacles and achievements I have reached my goals. These skills I have learned and achieved will help me in the future because of all the things I have done to achieve passing all the OTCUs. Listening good in class is one of the most important because even if you don't really study, you can think back to what you learned during the lesson in class. If I had to give advice I would say, do not procrastinate! Procrastination is one of the worst things that will impact you and personally, Procrastination has impacted me a lot throughout my school years. Slacking off will not help you at all and you should always try your best no matter what.
One personality quality that is important to me is responsibility because being an 8th grader has taught me that responsibility is extremely important in order to help me prepare for high school, college, and beyond. One experience that has helped me greatly this year is meeting new people and making new friends because being social is one of the most important thing in life in order to communicate and succeed in the future. I think communication is most important in life in order to succeed. I have learned that you can't really get anything done if you don't have responsibility because work will not just finish itself. I am proud of myself because I have accomplished passing all the OTCUs because of taking responsibility. This experience will help me a lot in the future. And my socializing skills will help me with my future career because communication is very important to me.
