cheerio and matter demonstration
+Justify how this project/lab activity meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself.
The standard is 3e. Which we had to know about the movement of the atoms in a solid, liquid, and gas. We used cheerios to represent the atoms in the three states of matter. As it says in standard 3e, the atoms are closely locked in and vibrate in place. We represented that with the cheerios close together. For the liquid, I slightly separated the atoms(cheerios). I separated the cheerios slightly so the atoms can move and slide past each other for the liquid. Finally, for the gas, I separated the cheerios a little more for the gas because gases have very fast movement as they rarely bup into each other.
2. Elaborate on at least 1 skill and/or strength you feel you gained from completing this project.
One skill I think I have gained from this assignment is learning about the structure of matter by arranging the Cheerios in place. I also learned how the atoms in the structure move around whether in place or moving very fast. The reason I had these skills because I took notes and went over them to learn more about matter. I also listened very good to the slide so that I can apply much information as I can.
3. Upon reflecting on your work/score, what is ONE area of work you could have done better on? How will improving in this area benefit future work/projects?
One area I could've done better on was glueing the Cheerios on better. I put too much glue in some and too little in others. I also could've used less Cheerios for the gas portion because it need to slide past each other and it looked like it was a liquid. I also could have put more Cheerios on the solid side. Also in the liquid, I could have also put less.
4. How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real world (outside of the classroom, particularly connections between the content and your life.
I would apply these skills to my life if I want to become a Science teacher. I'll have to know the structure of matter and explain it to my students. Also, it will help in college in chemistry or science because it will come in handy if I want to present something on matter. Another thing is being a chemist because I'm pretty sure that I need to learn how the atoms in matter are arranged.
STANDARD:
Cheerio and Matter Demonstration Standards3e. I know that in solids the atoms are closely locked in position and can only vibrate; in liquids the atoms and molecules are more loosely connected & can collide with and move past one another; and in gases the atoms and molecules are free to move independently, colliding frequently.
